Marcus Nispel's The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is being released today. Is anyone else really excited about this? I thought the trailer for this movie was one of the best trailers of the year. It was nostalgic, sexy, and scary. The movie stars Jessica Biel of The Rules of Attraction fame (a real gem of a movie that gets better with every viewing). Plus, the movie takes place in Travis County, Texas! For all non-Texans, that's the county where you can find Austin, where I spent my summer this year. I just hope this new version doesn't turn out to be something like Gus Van Sant's failed 1998 remake of Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho. After all, Tobe Hooper's 1974 original was borderline brilliant. (I remember I showed a clip of that movie during a presentation I gave in high school on the gothic anti-hero, to the horror of my English teacher. How comical.) We'll just have to see how it turns out...
