i'm up in the clouds, and i can't come down...
Almost done with callback interviewing...I am alive.
Musings of a Harvard Law School student on such topics as film, philosophy, and law.
I'm doing my reading for tomorrow. The Court in FCC v. Pacifica Foundation concludes: "We simply hold that when the Commission finds that a pig has entered the parlor, the exercise of its regulatory power does not depend on proof that the pig is obscene."
Added my review of Clint Eastwood's Mystic River. It's perhaps the most pretentious movie released this year. And no, that's not a good thing!
Added my review of Marcus Nispel's The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Sex, meet Death.
Here's a shot in the dark if ever there was one: Is anyone out there looking to purchase a (reduced-price) ticket for the Thursday, Oct 23rd, 7:30pm Marilyn Manson concert at the Orpheum Theatre in Boston? If so, email me. I won't be able to make it. Ugh.
Marcus Nispel's The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is being released today. Is anyone else really excited about this? I thought the trailer for this movie was one of the best trailers of the year. It was nostalgic, sexy, and scary. The movie stars Jessica Biel of The Rules of Attraction fame (a real gem of a movie that gets better with every viewing). Plus, the movie takes place in Travis County, Texas! For all non-Texans, that's the county where you can find Austin, where I spent my summer this year. I just hope this new version doesn't turn out to be something like Gus Van Sant's failed 1998 remake of Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho. After all, Tobe Hooper's 1974 original was borderline brilliant. (I remember I showed a clip of that movie during a presentation I gave in high school on the gothic anti-hero, to the horror of my English teacher. How comical.) We'll just have to see how it turns out...
Will Baude of Crescat Sententia claims to have deduced Sua Sponte's transfer school from some of the information I provided earlier regarding Harvard transfers. However, he's wrong, as the Tulane transfer is male. Indeed, I don't think Sua Sponte was at Tulane to begin with. Try again, Will.
I know this is a total cop-out thing to do, but I'll do it anyways. Here is a list of movies I've seen this year without properly reviewing them. I plan to eventually give them a review (when I actually have my life back, after OCI). In the meantime, my grade will have to suffice:
Added my review of Quentin Tarantino's latest masterpiece, Kill Bill: Vol. 1.
I just watched Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill, Vol. 1. This movie has easily displaced Lost in Translation as the best movie of the year so far. It was a beautiful movie that rivals Pulp Fiction's genius. My review to come shortly.
Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill, Vol. 1 is out today. And so is the new Coen brothers movie, Intolerable Cruelty. Big movie weekend...I'll certainly review Kill Bill soon enough. (In fact, my review is due by Sunday night for print publication, so no chance to procrastinate.)
I just realized something...I never reviewed Jeepers Creepers 2. Ugh. Things I think about during OCI. I tell you, OCI is not good for your health.
Sorry for the lack of updates...I've been drowning in OCI. Here's a little food for thought that I encountered while taking a break from my Free Speech reading, from no one other than the master ironist himself, Kierkegaard: "People hardly ever make use of the freedom which they have, for example, freedom of thought; instead, they demand freedom of speech as compensation." Touche!
The Village Voice has this to say: "Tarantino's new Kill Bill, in theaters next Friday, is probably the most violent movie ever made by an American studio."
Added my review of Richard Linklater's latest (and most uncharacteristic) movie, School of Rock. Jack Black doubters beware!
Added my review of the pseudo-documentary American Splendor. Splendid film.
